Jewellery sets a class for Indian women; it is a form of personal ornament worn by mostly the Indian women as they treat it as their tradition. By wearing jewellery they feels themselves as complete, there are various types of jewellery ornaments which they wear such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The various materials used to make jewellery can be usually gemstones, precious metals, beads, or shells. Indian women are considered complete with the jewellery they wear. Jewellery is one of the oldest forms of body adornment, recently in a discovery beads were found which are considered to be 100,000-year-old and they have come from Nassarius shells are thought to be the oldest known jewellery.
Gemstones and other kind of precious stones and metals which can be categorized as silver or gold are used to form traditional jewellery while there is also a growing demand for art jewellery where design and creativity is prized above material value. To add more to this jewellery section, India’s Gem Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) on, June 7, 2011 formally launched the second edition of its opening up India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) in Mumbai. While speaking at the launch press conference, GJEPC chairman Rajiv Jain announced that riding on the success of last year’s show, the 2011 edition of the IIJW has a immensely flourished involvement basis and enhanced purchaser engagement.
This is proved by the fact that international designer jewelry brand Stefan Hafner is a confirmed visitor at the IIJW. In another first, Jain also announced that Indian film star Sonam Kapoor is selected as a face for this year’s IIJW. Kapoor has previously been the brand ambassador for the Indian generic diamond jewellery promotion campaign, Anant.
Aimed as first step to establish the design credentials of the Indian gem and jewelry industry and move it further downstream, this year’s IIJW will run from July 31 to August 4. It will feature offerings from 32 Indian jewelry design houses and is expected to be well received by both domestic and international buyers. The last day of the IIJW will intentionally overlap with the opening day of the India International Jewellery Show and is intended to provide a high-end showcase for the kind of products the trade show will feature.
While talking to the media, GJEPC vice chairman Sanjay Kothari said the IIJW initiative was unique in the world. All other fashion jewelry weeks, including the iconic Milan and Paris shows, are centered around clothes, with jewelry playing a secondary role. IIJW is the only one to focus primarily on jewelry. Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor is the face of the 2nd edition of India International Jewellery Week organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Sonam stated reporters that it is both an honour and a privilege to be chosen as the face of this big event which aims to promote Indian talent at the global platform. She is looking forward to the magnanimous event to witness few exemplary talents this year. Sonam Kapoor will inaugurate the event by walking the ramp on the opening day. The grand event will take place at the Grand Hyatt and will continue for 5 days. The chief participants in this year’s event include Gitanjali Gems, Kashi Jewellers, Anmol Jewellers, Divya Ahuja, Amrapali Jewels Pvt. Ltd, Rosily Paul creations and Tanishq among others.
